MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 joins fellow Mainers in condemning the statements from the President of the United States from Tuesday when he degraded and disparaged immigrants
The Maine Service Employees Association, SEIU Local 1989, joins fellow Mainers in condemning the statements from the President of the United States from Tuesday when he degraded and disparaged immigrants in an effort to divide us as workers and neighbors.
“The racist comments coming from the White House are the latest attempt to distract from the fact that the administration and Congress have done nothing this year to address rising costs,” MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 President Mark Brunton said. “Their massive cuts to Medicaid, which they bill as their single legislative accomplishment, will only make healthcare more expensive for working people, in order to give massive tax breaks to billionaires and their cronies, while increasing the federal deficit by trillions of dollars.”
We stand with our immigrant members, fellow workers and elected leaders who strengthen our communities every day. Immigrants have strengthened Maine, our nation and our union since the beginning of each. All workers, including our immigrant-American colleagues, have more in common than we have differences.
“We are a nation of immigrants and the native peoples who were here before us all; it is our national identity,” President Brunton said. “When powerful interests try to divide us by ethnicity, color or creed, we must remember that our strength rests in solidarity. All Americans deserve to live free from hate, ridicule and prejudice. We stand united as workers.”
