Are you interested in running to serve on the MSEA-SEIU Board of Directors, or another important committee?
2026 MSEA-SEIU Annual Meeting –
The 2026 MSEA SEIU Local 1989 Annual Meeting will convene on Oct. 9-10 at the Augusta Civic Center.
At the Annual Meeting, delegates will elect members to:
- Board of Directors
- Finance Committee
- Voluntary Employee Benefits Association Committee (VEBA oversees the MSEA Income Protection Plan).
- PASER (Political Action by Service Employees and Retirees) Committee, which makes legislative and endorsement recommendations.
To run for the MSEA-SEIU Board of Directors or union committees, members can self-nominate or nominate others at the Annual Meeting; however, please also send the nomination in writing to MSEA-SEIU President Mark Brunton at president@mseaseiu.org.
The following positions will be up for election at this meeting:
Finance Committee: three seats and three alternate seats
Each representative will serve a two-year term and alternates will serve a one-year term. Members are elected by the Council from among its membership or from those members who have expressed to the Council, in writing, interest in serving, if elected.
Area 1
Board Director- two seats
PASER Committee- two seats, PASER Alternate- one seat
VEBA Committee- one seat, VEBA Alternate, one seat
Area 2
Board Director- two seats, Alternate Director- one seat
PASER Committee- three seats, PASER Alternate- one seat
VEBA Committee- one seat, VEBA Alternate, one seat
Area 3
Board Director- two seats
PASER Committee- two seats, PASER Alternate- one seat
VEBA Committee- one seat, VEBA Alternate, one seat
Retirees
Alternate Board Director- one seat
MSEA-SEIU Board of Directors – Directors and alternate directors must be nominated by members of their respective areas. According to our Constitution & By-Laws, “a candidate is ineligible for election to fill any current or future vacancy as a Director or Alternate Director if another member of the same chapter/local has been elected, by a Caucus from the same Area, to serve as Director during the same period of time. No member shall be eligible to serve as Director if another member from the same chapter/local has been elected to fill a position as Director or Alternate Director for the same period of time.”
Voluntary Employee Benefits Association (VEBA) Committee – The Council will hold elections for the VEBA Committee. Each representative will serve a three-year term and alternates will serve a one-year term. To run for the VEBA Committee: Members must be participants in the MSEA Income Protection Plan and be nominated at the Annual Meeting.
PASER Committee – The Area Caucuses at Annual Meeting will nominate representatives and alternates to the PASER (Political Action by Service Employees and Retirees) Committee. Each representative will serve a two-year term; alternates will serve a one-year term. To run for PASER committee, members must be monthly contributors to PASER.
Prior to the Annual Meeting, MSEA will convene informational caucuses, with opportunities for members to learn about the business to be conducted at Annual Meeting and to ask questions.
Informational caucuses are opportunities for all of us to meet or learn more about the candidates running in our union elections and learn more about our 2026 Annual Meeting, the proposed budget and resolutions.

Area 1 Caucus – 6pm Tuesday, Sept. 22, via Teams. The Teams link was emailed out Aug. 26;
Area 2 Caucus – 5:30pm Monday, Sept. 21, MSEA-SEIU Board Room, 5 Community Drive, Augusta. Also via Teams; the link was emailed out Aug. 26.
