MSEA-SEIU members endorse Matt Dunlap for Congress, 2nd District

MSEA-SEIU-endorsed Matt Dunlap for U.S. Congress (2nd District), seventh from left, and MSEA-SEIU-endorsed Troy Jackson, fifth from left, show their solidarity at the Central Maine Labor Council’s 2026 Labor Day BBQ.

Members of the Maine Service Employees Association, Local 1989 of the Service Employees International Union (MSEA-SEIU Local 1989), the largest union of state workers in Maine, have endorsed Matt Dunlap for U.S. Congressional District 2 in the November 3rd general elections.

“Our union is proud to endorse Matt Dunlap for U.S. Congress,” said MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 President Mark Brunton of Lewiston. “Matt has been a union member himself and knows what solidarity looks like. He supports the PRO Act, which would expand union rights for thousands of workers. He opposes so-called ‘right to work’ legislation that would weaken worker power. When he’s elected in November, he’ll be a voice for all Maine workers, both active and retired.”

Matt Dunlap was born on a farm near Bar Harbor and never forgot where he came from. He’s washed dishes, tended bar, and trapped fur for a living — he respects hard work because he’s done it. From leading the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine to serving as Secretary of State and State Auditor, he’s always been on the side of working people. Now he’s running for Congress to lower costs, take on the corporations ripping us off, and make billionaires pay their fair share — because he’s one of us.

“Matt Dunlap is an honest and trustworthy public servant who grew up in Maine and lived here his entire life. He has spent his career working to make Maine a better place and he understands the issues that matter most to Maine workers and retirees,” said Ginette Rivard, an MSEA retiree member from Caribou, a member of our union’s Political Action for Service Employees and Retirees (PASER) Committee and a past president of MSEA. “I know that when he’s elected, Matt is not only going to listen to us; he will follow through and fight for us. He will be a Congressman we can be proud of. Please join me in voting for Matt.”

“I’m excited that our union has endorsed Matt Dunlap for Congress,” said MSEA Retiree Member John Patrick of Lincoln, also a member of our union’s PASER Committee. “I served in the Legislature when Paul LePage was Governor, and I saw firsthand the damage LePage did to working families and retirees while he was in office. Unlike LePage, we can trust Matt Dunlap to fight for all of us and work to make our lives better here in Maine.”

“State workers are the backbone of everything our state does,” Matt Dunlap said upon accepting our endorsement. “As State Auditor—and before that, as Secretary of State—I saw firsthand the tremendous value the workers represented by MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 provide to Maine every single day. They deserve to be treated with respect, paid fairly, and kept safe on the job. Our people are the greatest asset in state government.”
