The dues structure has changed, and it’s only 1.3% in 2026!

You can calculate your dues costs here:

In 2024, delegates to the MSEA Annual Meeting voted to move from flat dues to percentage-based dues for all units, effective January 1, 2026.

Percentage dues are a fair system based on ability to pay. Members approved this change to lower the cost of membership for new hires and lower-wage positions, and to ensure future dues changes are tied to contract bargaining outcomes.

Members also see this shift as a way to strengthen our union—by increasing participation, expanding field capacity, and growing our membership so we can win real improvements for workers, including closing the pay gap, securing the right to strike for public employees, and strengthening our voice in every worksite.

Starting in January 2026, the percentile dues rate is phased in over five years as follows:

Jan. 1, 2026 —  1.3%;

Jan. 1, 2027 —  1.35%;

Jan. 1, 2028 — 1.4%

Jan. 1, 2029 — 1.45%

Jan. 1, 2030, and thereafter — 1.5%

There is a cap, so no one will pay over $15 a week. Then the cap on weekly dues would increase by 75 cents annually thereafter.
